James Gorman, former Morgan Stanley CEO and current Disney board member, has been named the next chairman of Disney's board, succeeding Mark Parker on January 2, 2025. Disney also announced that CEO Bob Iger’s successor will be revealed in early 2026, giving time for a coordinated transition before Iger’s contract ends on December 31, 2026. Gorman, who leads Disney’s succession planning committee, is tasked with overseeing the search for Iger’s replacement, with several internal and external candidates being considered.

DISNEY FILES PERMIT FOR EXCITING NEW SHOW AT HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS

A new show, "The Little Mermaid—A Musical Adventure," will open at Disney's Hollywood Studios in summer 2025, replacing "Voyage of the Little Mermaid." The show's debut was delayed from fall 2024, and a permit was filed for a new sign. The park will also introduce a Disney Villains stage show, replacing Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy.

The Disneyland Railroad has begun testing its full loop around Disneyland Park, signaling the completion of track work and hinting at a possible reopening soon. Construction walls have been removed from most stations except Main Street, U.S.A., and New Orleans Square, with potential access available from Tomorrowland or Mickey’s Toontown. While the attraction remains closed since August 5 for track work, no reopening date is listed yet, but testing suggests it could be imminent.

EXCLUSIVE PERKS OF DISNEY’S SECRETIVE CLUB 33 — AND WHY A COUPLE GOT BANNED FOR LIFE!

Scott and Diana Anderson, Disneyland superfans, spent $400,000 in legal fees trying to regain access to Disney’s exclusive Club 33 after their membership was revoked in 2017 for alleged public drunkenness. Club 33, an elite membership priced at $31,000 per year, offers access to VIP lounges, special events, and celebrity encounters. Despite their lawsuit seeking $241,500 in compensation and reinstatement, a judge ruled in Disney's favor, but the couple is still considering further legal action.

DISNEY+ AND HULU SKIP APP STORE BILLING AMIDST NEW PRICE HIKES

Disney+ and Hulu have removed the option to subscribe through Apple’s in-app purchases, requiring new users to create accounts via an external website to avoid paying Apple’s 15-30% commission on transactions. Existing subscribers using iOS apps won’t be affected by the change, but new users must sign up through disneyplus.com/next. This move follows other streaming platforms like Netflix and Spotify, which have also bypassed in-app purchases after Apple updated its policies to allow apps to redirect users for external purchases.

The 2025 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, presented by Honda, will take place from January 30 to February 2, 2025, featuring a range of races, challenges, and even yoga sessions through Disneyland's theme parks and surrounding areas.
